I have a 2.482 kg of Topside of Beef,i want to cook it in the slow cooker, how long should it be on for?

Someone told me to brown the beef 1st to seal it then put it in the slow cooker with a cup of water and cook it on low for 9-10 hours, is this right?i dont want it dry!!! i do like it medium to well done, any suggestions?
